1. ๐Ÿ’ผ MP Materials

MP Materials logo

MP

โ„น๏ธ Bio

Now this is a cool company. They are a 'rare-earth materials company' headquartered in Las Vegas. They own and operate within the Mountain Pass mine, which is a mine of rare-earth elements. These are rare elements and their properties can be used for clean energy, unlike standard elements. Yep, it's literally like something out of RuneScape or Minecraft. As if things couldn't get any more badass, it's the only operating rare earth mine and processing facility in the U.S.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. In February 2022, Joe Biden announced the U.S. Department of Defence was investing $35 million into MP Materials to help spur domestic rare earth production in the United States!

  2. The Mountain Pass mine was discovered in 1949 and once supplied most of the world's (yep, the world's!) rare earth elements.

  3. MP Materials changed the game for the Mountain Pass. They raised $545 million for their work towards it, whilst before their involvement previous owners had gone bankrupt and left it in a serious need of 'care and maintenance '.

Does this company tick your investor's box? 'Ore' are you going to 'pass'? Sorry, I'll stop with the puns. Maybe.

2. ๐Ÿ’ผ QuantumScape

โ„น๏ธ Bio

We know electric vehicles are in demand - just look at the government's plans to get us driving them. But what do you think EVs need? I'll let you in on the secret โ€“ lithium batteries! QuantumScape creates fast charging batteries which reduce the wait time when topping up your vehicle.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. It's hard to argue with QuantumScape's investor support โ€“ just the casual team of Bill Gates and Volkswagen.ย

  2. In June 2022, they announced the production of a battery with a range of 650 km and a charge time of just 15 minutes.

  3. 2020 was a big year for the company. They went live on the New York Stock Exchange, merged with Kensington Capital Acquisition and as a result, received $1 billion in financing from Volkswagen and the Qatar Investment Authority. Wow.

If the EVs are gold in the gold rush, then QuantumScape are definitely the shovel sellers!

3. ๐Ÿ’ผ Ameresco

Ameresco logo

AMRC

โ„น๏ธ Bio

Green, clean and sustainable is the Ameresco mantra. But how do they make their dough? They supply clients with renewable energy, focusing mainly on landfill gas, wind and solar power. The primary aim is to save their clients money by through efficiency lighting, heating, cooling and other simple fixes.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. They were ranked one of America's best mid-size companies by Forbes in 2021.

  2. George Sakellaris founded the company back in 2000. 22 years later, he serves as CEO, Chairman of the Board and President. Don't let anyone tell you multitasking is impossible, folks.

  3. They have a diverse range of clients. Government, healthcare and education are just some of the industries they're involved with. Read more on their customers via their website.

So then, is Ameresco a go for you?

4. ๐Ÿ’ผ Nikola

โ„น๏ธ Bio

Ever wondered who Tesla's competitors are when it comes to their semi trucks? Well, that would be Nikola. The world's focus may be on electric cars, but let's not forget about trucks. They're constantly on the roads, burning large amounts of emissions. Nikola wants to solve that issue by creating heavy-duty electric vehicles.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. A Nikola truck has a range of up to 350 miles, compared to the proposed 500 miles a Tesla semi truck will be able to offer.

  2. Their starting price is $150,000.

  3. Max speed of a Nikola truck? 75mph!

Is Nikola the fleet of the future? Or will they struggle to steer out of the Tesla shadow?

5. ๐Ÿ’ผ Bloomenergy

Bloomenergy logo

๐Ÿ“ˆ Ticker symbol

BE

โ„น๏ธ Bio

Bloomenergy is all about problem-solving. You see, an ageing grid infrastructure prone to natural disasters and rising electricity costs are two major issues we face. Their servers convert fuel into electricity through an electrical chemical process. I don't think my C in GCSE Chemistry makes me the best person to explain that process, but I will tell you it's clever and efficient.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. The first hydrogen fuel cell was built by co-founder Jim McElroy as part of NASAโ€™s Gemini program. Tell me that ain't cool and you're just lying to yourself.

  2. Science geek? You'll love this one. The anode and cathode electrodes in Bloom's fuel cells are special inks that 'coat' an electrolyte. This means no metals, corrosive acids, or molten materials are required to create Bloom's solid oxide fuel cells, an advantage they have over other companies' fuel cells!

  3. Their Customer base is impressive to say the least. Google, Walmart, Ikea - the list goes on.

Bloomin' love renewable energy? Bloomenergy might just be the renewable stock you're after.

6. ๐Ÿ’ผ Canadian Solar

Canadian Solar logo

CSIQ

โ„น๏ธ Bio

Alright, no prizes for guessing which renewable energy source these guys focus on. Yep, wind. Joking, solar obviously. If you have some land, a business or a home (in the U.S.) you want to plaster in solar panels, Canadian Solar are the people for the job.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. Bloomberg can't get enough of Canadian Solar. Bloomberg rated them as a 'Tier 1 Solar Company' and rated them the 'Top Bankable Manufacturer in 2021'.

  2. Canadian Solar doesn't just sell solar panels, they also complete large scale projects for governments which help countries utilise more renewable energy sources.

  3. They were ranked the No. 1 Silicon module solar plant developer by Greentech Media Research in 2017.

So, will Canadian Solar be lighting up your ethical portfolio?

7. ๐Ÿ’ผ ChargePoint

ChargePoint logo

CHPT

โ„น๏ธ Bio

โœ… โŒ True or false: Tesla has the biggest EV charging network in the U.S.? False! ChargePoint does, by quite some way too. Why is this? Simple, whilst Tesla is an electric vehicle maker, their charging ports are part of their overall business. ChargePoint on the other hand, just specialise in building ports for all EV users.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. At the start of 2022, Tesla had around 27,000 charging stations, whilst ChargePoint had close to double that.

  2. Their 'home flex' EV charger powers up any EV as much as 9X faster than a standard wall outlet.

  3. The ChargePoint business model is quite diverse. They cater to individuals, businesses, fleets and automotive partners.

Will ChargePoint continue to charge the way for electric networks across the U.S.? If so, they might just be worth keeping an eye on! ๐Ÿ‘€

8. ๐Ÿ’ผ Stem, Inc.

Stem logo

๐Ÿ“ˆ Ticker symbol

STEM

โ„น๏ธ Bio

This is a dream stock for those interested in tech and renewable companies. Stem is the world leader in AI-enabled smart energy storage, but what does that even mean? Basically, there is a demand for clean energy usage, and they help large companies scale their energy strategies in a clean and green way. Think of them like energy consultants!

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. Meta, UPS, Adobe and over 30 other companies use Stem.

  2. They raised $152 million in their series D round from investors. That's $50 million over the average series D!

  3. They're the first public pure play smart energy storage company.

So then tech lovers, is this a smart buy for both tech and renewable energy?

9. ๐Ÿ’ผ Clearway Energy

Clearway Energy logo

๐Ÿ“ˆ Ticker symbol

CWEN

โ„น๏ธ Bio

When you see hundreds of wind turbines out at sea, do you ever wonder who put them there? Probably not, you're probably thinking itโ€™s a small price to pay - spoiling a view for clean energy. But, putting them there is exactly what Clearway Energy does. They also install solar generation projects on a large scale.ย

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. When the company went public in 2013, they did so under the name NRG Yield.

  2. Global Infrastructure Partners, a fund manager, bought the company and changed the name in 2018.

  3. When Clearway Energy went public under the name of NRG Yield, they did so at $22 a share.

Clearway a clear winner? You know where to look if you think so! Just remember, as with all investing, your capital is at risk.

10. ๐Ÿ’ผ FuelCell Energy

FuelCell Energy logo

๐Ÿ“ˆ Ticker symbol

FCEL

โ„น๏ธ Bio

Remember in the Avengers when Ironman makes Stark Tower run off 100% clean energy? Well, that's exactly what FuelCell Energy wants to help the world achieve. A fuel cell is an 'electrochemical cell' that converts the energy of a fuel into electricity. It's as complicated as it sounds, and so their customers don't have the know-how to do this on their own. FuelCell will design and install a project, as well as maintain the fuel cell system once it's up and running.

๐Ÿค“ Three cool facts

  1. Their customers range from businesses and utility companies to universities. They are well diversified in this sense.

  2. A lot of what they do is complicated, but at the heart of their operation is this โ€“ take energy like natural gas or hydrogen, combine that with air, and make electricity.

  3. They're trusted by the very best in the game. ExxonMobil and Toyota have both used FuelCell Energy, whilst the U.S. Department of Energy awarded them with a $1.5 million grant.

So, which company is a green, clean winning machine in your eyes? ๐Ÿ‘€
